On October 30, ������Ƶ received a $100,000 grant from the Charles A. Cannon Charitable Trust Number One in Concord, North Carolina, to support a major update to Rudisill Library, one of the most heavily used academic and student spaces on campus.

Built in the 1940s, with additions and updates in the 1960s and 1980s, Rudisill Library has not undergone any major improvements in decades. This new investment will allow the university to refresh and revitalize the space through new paint, flooring, flexible furniture and technology enhancements that reflect how today’s students learn and collaborate. Plans also include relocating the library’s front desk to improve accessibility and better serve students, faculty, staff and visitors. 

“Rudisill Library has long been a cornerstone of our academic community, providing essential resources and spaces for study, collaboration and discovery,” said Summer McGee, Ph.D., president of ������Ƶ. “We are deeply grateful to the Cannon Charitable Trusts for their generosity and vision in helping us reimagine this vital campus hub for the next generation of learners.”

While a detailed project timeline is still being developed, ������Ƶ anticipates beginning work in 2026 to minimize disruption during the academic year.

Located along the quad of ������Ƶ’s Hickory campus, Rudisill Library serves as both a study space and a community gathering place, welcoming thousands of students and visitors each year. The upcoming updates will align the library’s design and functionality with the university’s broader vision for innovation, wellness and community.
